Welcome to my blog!

My name is Mikael Johansson and I am an amateur photographer from Sweden. This is my photo blog.  I mainly present pictures of wildlife, especially birds. I started to photograph birds 2008 and the main purpose with this blog is to show some of the pictures, get criticism and develop my photographic skills.

I work a lot with sportfishing (travel agency and magazine). Now and then I will post pictures from some of my travels. Eventually I will collect them all in an archive.

Every new bird species I photograph can be found in the archive. Click on Birds in the menu above. There are lots of documentation pictures, but also som good ones.

Please leave a comment!

Enjoy your stay!

Mikael

Addicted to Mullets

It´s been over a month since I updated my blog. Sorry. I have been busy chasing mullets on the westcoast of Sweden. This mysterious fish has taken over my mind and I must admit that I´ve become addicted to these powerful creatures. I have not given up on the bird photography, but until I find out how to catch the biggest mullet – no blogging :)

On a small island in the middle of nowhere, Lake Nasser, Egypt, April 2011.
I saw House Sparrows on almost every little island in the huge Lake Nasser (500 kilometers long) during my last trip. Their nests could be found inside rocks and cavities. Really nice to see this ”city bird” in the wild!

Black Kite / Brun glada / Milvus migrans

Garf Hussein, Lake Nasser, Egypt, May 2011. 45 degrees Celsius – lots of heat haze. The Kite caught a floating dead fish on the surface and gave it to the female. More pics will follow in the archive.

The Red Sea

In January I went to the Red Sea to try out the popperfishing for Giant Trevally. We fished the southern parts of Egypt and tried out some spots in Sudan as well. There were lots of GT´s in medium sizes and also many barracudas, snappers and different jacks. Most of the pictures from this trip will be used in articles and can´t be shown – yet. But here are some that didn´t make the cut:

A Buzzard and a Peregrine Falcon (and a wish for summer)

I live close to a nature photographers paradise. No doubt about it. The pics above was taken during a walk the other day and though I was mad about the grey weather I must admit – I love this town. A Buzzard and a Peregrine Falcon. Just like that. I am not proud of the quality of the pics, but this is a photo blog. Some days I succeed taking the pictures I long for. Some days I end up in a mist. But I can always try again, when the light is right. I have these birds in my backyard :) Until I get my shots I will keep on trying to hide and blend in. Just like these birds, in their daily search of food.

But I long for times like this…

Varberg

Varberg Landscapes
During a couple of hours last Saturday the coast of Varberg, Sweden, looked like this. Winter sceneries at its best. Say no more. Nudge nudge!
